What City Church Believes

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our everyday lives.
2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
2 Peter 1:20-21
Knowing this first, the no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but by holy men as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
We believe in one eternal God, the creator of all things, who exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit; who is loving, just and holy.
Matthew 28:19
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
John 5:7
For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
Isaiah 43:10-11
“You are My witnessess,” says the Lord, “and My servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, nor shall there be after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and besides Me there is no saviour.
1 John 4:16
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God and God in him.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God, was born of the Virgin Mary and as both God and man, gave His life to reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross in our place; His death paid our debt of sin so that we can be forgiven and He rose again victorious over sin and death. He is alive and empowers us for life.
Matthew 1:23
Behold the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which is translated, “God with us”.
2 Corinthians 5:21
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Isaiah 53:4
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows:  yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
1 Corinthians 15:3b-6a
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once.
We believe that sin separated us from God and that we receive salvation by grace through faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. In order to be reconciled to Him, we must repent from our sin, receive His forgiveness, confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and submit to His will for our lives.
Romans 3:23
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Ephesians 1:7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.
John 11:25-26
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.”
We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a gift of grace subsequent to salvation with the Biblical evidence of speaking in other tongues and the power to witness.
Luke 11:13
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
Acts 1:8
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Acts 2:4
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
We believe in water baptism by full immersion, which demonstrates a believer’s identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus; and the consistent remembrance of Christ through communion.
Acts 2:38
Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 11:23b-26
The Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This does, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”  For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
We believe in divine healing through Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:24
Who himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by whose stripes you were healed.
Matthew 8:16-17
When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.”
We believe in the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together for worship, fellowship, prayer and training in righteousness.
Matthew 16:17-19
Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Var-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
Ephesians 3:10
To the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places.
We believe in the practice of tithing to the local Church and the giving of offerings by all believers.
Leviticus 27:30
And all of the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s. It is holy to the Lord.
Malachai 3:8-10
“Will a man rob God?  Yet you have robbed Me!  But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed you?’  In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, eve this whole nation. Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.”
We believe that every believer is commissioned and empowered to go into the world and make disciples.
Matthew 28:18-19
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
We believe that God wants to transform and prosper us so we can live healthy, blessed and victorious lives that will impact, help and direct others towards God.
2 Corinthians 9:8-11
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written: “He has dispersed abroad, He has given to the poor; His righteousness endures forever.”  Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you faithful, who also will do it.
We believe that our eternal destination of either heaven or hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 3:36
He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.
John 4:28-29
Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth – those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
Revelation 20:11-15
Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was openend, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
We believe that Jesus is coming back again just as He promised, to take us to heaven to live with Him forever.
John 14:1-3
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”
Acts 1:11
Who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven?  This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. Gor this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.
